Medicinal cannabis – Joe Biden’s White House reviews Cannabis decriminalisation.

“No one should be jailed for using or possessing marijuana.” Joe Biden stated during his State of the Union address 2024.

US regulators are planning to announce the reclassification of cannabis which will effectively decriminalise cannabis for medicinal use in the United States, NBC reported today.

The re-classification from Schedule I to Schedule III will see medicinal cannabis regulated alongside products like Tylenol Aspirin, & Codeine.

Schedule 1 compounds are drugs which have no medicinal use along with significant potential for abuse.

Clearly not the situation with medicinal cannabis, which has been prized for its medical uses for over two thousand years.

The reclassification of medicinal cannabis will deliver other significant benefits including:-

  • conventional pharmaceutical research could be conducted verifying medicinal cannabis’ efficacy,
  • safe and secure and tested products will become more broadly and more conveniently available to patients.

Corollary benefits will include downward pressure on illicit and black markets, reducing the pressures on policing, judicial and regulatory authorities.

Commenting today, Tom Varga, Biortica’s CEO said , “This is great news. We’re not there yet but it seems that the US legislators are considering what could be a win across the board, a win for the legitimate cannabis industry, a win for regulators and most importantly a win for patients.”

“This US news together recent news from the EU is clear recognition that the world is moving from prohibition to recognition,” he said.

“We look forward to and will fully support any initiatives we can to build to establish an effective Australian regulatory framework.
